Become a Better Manager

Management
is the key to business.
Managers
are those who direct their employees to successful results. The
best managers
are approachable, innovative, kind, and strict. Improving your management skills can result in improved productivity, accuracy, and efficiency.

A good manager is one who can take a group of people and run a successful business or operation. Companies across the board are cutting costs by reducing the number of managers in their payroll. This increases their need for good managers, as the job will have more responsibility and stress. Good management skills can be innate, but they can also be learned.

Know Your People

Everyone has their own set of strengths and weaknesses. It is the job of the
manager
to find and utilize their people’s strengths. This will make delegation
much easier and more productive. Much can be said for knowing your people’s interests as well as strengths. Showing an interest in someone’s personal life will show that you care, and what you say to them will have more meaning because it’s not just work anymore.

Leadership Skills

Developing leadership skills is integral to becoming a
better manager
. Great leaders will provide their people with direction and purpose. Instead of your workers blindly trudging towards an unknown objective with the whips at their back, join the march and show them where to go. Lead your people by example. Show them what to do and how to do it. This will gain the respect of your pupils and peers.

Communicate

Those
managers
who can articulate exactly what needs to be done will get better results. Good communication skills will reduce “lost in translation” errors and improve productivity and efficiency. To be a good communicator, you must follow up to insure that your people understand the task. Sometimes it may take repeat approaches before it is completely understood.
